Acoustic Regulations

With growing urbanisation the environmental impact of noise has become greater.

Guidance is provided by BS 8233: 1999 Sound insuation and noise reduction for buildings Code of practice, and further detail on the subject of the acoustic insulation performance of glass can be found in “Properties and functions of glass”.

Other relevant standards include BS EN ISO 140 which deals with the measurement of sound insulation in buildings, BS EN ISO 717 which deals with the rating of sound insulation in buildings and BS EN 12758 relating to glazing and airborne sound insulation.

Glass and glazing as part of the overall building fabric have a role to play in the battle against this pervasive nuisance.
